We could use a few more volunteers for our Semi truck and Prop loading during our Saturday competition. These positions do not require the full day. Activities occur at the school before departure and around the performance time at Hamilton. If you are able to help this weekend, please visit the Volunteer page to sign up.
We have been impacted by as many as 12 band students being quarantined at one time over the past few weeks. Some were due to close contacts in the band and others were close contacts in other school classrooms. While there are situations that are out of our control, there are ways that we can be proactive to keep students on the field and in school.
The band staff is identifying spots in the show that have us under the 6 foot close contact spacing. We hope to rehearse those spots under the 15 minute close contact minimum in the coming weeks. In the spots where students are in a small group during rehearsal, we suggest that they have a mask with them and can put them on in these situations. There are only a small handful of these moments in the show. This will not be a requirement, but will be a suggestion at times in moments we feel it could help students avoid quarantine criteria during rehearsals.
A student who chooses to wear a mask during their daily academic classes that have them closer than 6 feet, would also be a way to avoid being quarantined from other students. Our high school band classes allow us to maintain a distance of over 6 feet between students, but many other classrooms do not.
We have had situations where students became very upset that they had to miss a performance due to being identified as a close contact to another student and quarantined. We have Seniors with only a handful of performances left, Senior nights, Homecomings, a once in a lifetime performance at Ohio State, Championships and many more important events approaching. We appreciate all of our staff, students and parents working together to avoid any possible quarantining, when possible.
Band Expo
We host a competition in our district on October 23rd. We are looking for a few additional parents to lead certain areas of the event. If you would be interested in helping to lead any of the areas below, please reach out to joewesche@foresthills.edu
School Bus Parking Creating and coordinate the parking plan for all of the band busses that will attend our event
Band Trailer Parking Creating and coordinate the parking plan for all of the band trailers that will attend our event
We will be looking for many volunteers to help with these areas as we get closer to the October 23rd event, but are looking to fill volunteer leader roles at this point. Your help is very much appreciated to ensure that Forest Hills hosts an event that all other schools want to attend!
