Uniform Fittings
If a student has not yet been fitted for a Forest Hills uniform, which is different from our separate football game uniforms, they should do so on the days & times below. Some students have already completed this step, while many are still needing to have their uniform chosen. If your child is unsure if they have been fitted for their uniform or have additional questions, you can email our wind & percussion uniform parent volunteer, Debbie Klenk at dsklenk@yahoo.com. Each fitting will only take about 10 minutes.
Percussion- They can choose to stop by the band room any time between 3:00-5:00, prior to their Tuesday practice beginning or between 3:00-6:00 prior to the Wednesday night practice beginning.
Winds- They can choose to stick around after our Tuesday practice ends at 5:15 or any time between 3:00-6:00 prior to the Wednesday night practice beginning.
Colorguard- After school on Tuesday, prior to practice beginning. Students may use the after school shuttle bus option if they do not have a ride. Pizza will be provided for the students during this time. Email shawnaswango@foresthills.edu if there are any colorguard questions.
Compression Shirts
These should be ready to be worn this Friday night. If you have not yet picked one up locally or ordered one online, there is still time.
Friday Night Dress Rehearsal
This is a very important activity for the group to ensure they are ready for their first competition performance and all logistics the following day. We typically have a football game performance prior to our first competition. The calendar did not allow for that this season, so this event is in place of a football game performance night. The students will also learn where their uniform goes in the semi trailer and much more.
Wind & Percussion students will need their Compression shirt, Black marching shoes and tall black socks for their uniform this evening and the following. Colorguard coaches will provide information about their section uniform needs.
3:30- Students are ready to begin activities at Turpin. The shuttle buses will be running from Anderson & Nagel after school dismisses. 5:45- Dinner Break. Provided by Jersey Mikes & the boosters (see information below) 8:00- Performance in the football stadium 8:20- Students load their uniforms onto the semi truck and place instruments for the next day before departing.
Competition @ Tipp City
We link the detailed competition itineraries from the website calendar. You can also view it via the link below.
As we receive finalized details for our band competitions and other events that take place on Saturdays, we work with each student & parents to develop their daily plan for both activities. Please reach out to a band director at the beginning of each band competition week to coordinate those logistics, if a band director has not already spoken with you or your child. This first has us departing Turpin at 2:30, which looks to have most, if not all of our athletes & test takers to school in time to ride the band buses.
Remind
Remind has had a glitch where many Forest Hills accounts have lost partial or all members in a class. Please check your remind app to see if you are still signed up for the Parent reminds. If not using the app and are unsure, follow directions below to re-enroll.
How to Join: -Text "@fhmbparent" to 81010 -Join the class through the Remind app, enter "@fhmbparent" as class code
If prompted for "School ID" ignore this, and you will start to receive updates from the directors.
From the Boosters
Booster Meetings
Join us for Band Boosters meetings on the first Tuesday of each month from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Turpin Band Room (or Learning Commons if rain drives percussion indoors). Agendas and minutes are online, but our meetings are back to in-person!
Booster Membership
Booster membership is off to a great start this year and your membership matters! 113 families (over 50%) have completed their sign-up. Let’s aim for 100% by Friday night’s rehearsal!
The rehearsal meal could still use some additional items this Friday night (chips, fruit / veggie, cookie, and bottled water contributions especially). We’ll remind the kids to show some love to @JerseyMikes on social media as they enjoy the turkey, ham, & veggie options -- and would love for you to thank them for their generosity, too!
Many opportunities to volunteer are yet unfilled. Typically, we can meet the need if parents take on two volunteer openings (for each student) per season. Extra thanks to those parents who have taken on leadership roles and multiple volunteer needs. If you have questions about any of the postings, please reach out to the lead (usually, the “Created by” contact on the sign-up genius) or to boosters@fhbands.org! The band needs you!
Please designate Forest Hills Band Boosters as your charity. Remember, only purchases at smile.amazon.com or through the activated Amazon Shopping app support charity.
