We are ready for our main and final week of camp. The students accomplished so much last week and will really bring the show to life this coming week. We greatly appreciate the parent help last week to ensure the students were on time for the 9:00, had their supplies and at home support!
A reminder that we are at Turpin this week, due to the stadium construction taking place at Anderson. We add the 6:00-9:00 sessions each day, with the performance Friday night. Those evening sessions will be on the lower grass field Monday, Wednesday & Thursday and in the stadium Tuesday & Friday nights. Parents are welcome and encouraged to come out to the field and view the nightly progress. On Monday night, we will be reviewing all that was learned in week 1, with all of the props for the first time. On Tuesday, we will add a brand new song by the end of the night.
* Tuesday Altered Plan *
The band, sport teams and district administration have been coordinating for the last couple weeks regarding the safety drill taking place. The safety drill involves the emergency teams moving from the Knights of Columbus lot to the Turpin campus from about 9:00-9:30. After that, the drill takes place inside 1/2 of the Turpin building spaces.
The marching band always spends the morning hours outside learning on the field. We plan to do the same on Tuesday. However, given the coordination that has taken place over the past week, the sporting teams and marching band are going to begin at 8:30 to ensure that our teams are at their fields, prior to any other activities beginning. If there is rain on Tuesday morning, we would utilize the Mercer gym and Kiva for the group to practice. The Mercer gym doors are on the side of the building, next to the band practice field. We may also be using the gym for the student lunch if the drill is not complete by 12:30. It is estimated to be complete between noon and 12:30. Our morning rehearsal typically goes until 12:15 and we have the Snowie truck coming for the students to enjoy at that time on Tuesday, with lunch beginning afterwards.
Given that half hour earlier start time on Tuesday, we felt it was best to also end our afternoon rehearsal at 3:30 for the dinner break. This means that the dinner break would be from 3:30-6:00 on that day only. If this creates any inconvenience for any parents, the students are free to remain in the band room.
After 2 weeks of hard work, it is always such an exciting night to display the students hard work & progress to the band families. The performance will take place between 7:30-8:30 in the Turpin stadium.
