We will change over to our school year schedule this week. It is as follows: Mondays: Colorguard Practice 5:00-8:00 Tuesdays: Winds Practice 3:15-8:15; Percussion Practice 5:00-8:00 Wednesdays: Full Group Practice 6:00-9:00 Thursdays: Full Group Practice 3:15-5:15 Friday: Football Game (Turpin Band & Guard Students Only)
*It is going to be hot and feeling more like summer this week. We will give very frequent water breaks during practice. Every member should have a good sized water jug with them.
After School Shuttle Bus
On Tuesdays & Thursdays, there is a bus that runs from Nagel & Anderson to Turpin. The bus meets in the front of Nagel and at Anderson shortly after school. Mr. Sheridan will be there to help with the Nagel bus loading and Mr. Gaal will oversee the Anderson bus.
Attendance & Grading
The marching band staff is now working hard to have our group fully prepared for their first football game and competition performances quickly approaching in 3 weeks. We have developed a 3 week plan that has each of the remaining practices, broken down with daily tasks & goals.
It will be critical that every student is in attendance at practice for the full team to progress as we hope. This activity is not only educational, but it is also competitive. Like an athletic team, our results are largely based on attendance, effort & performance. We appreciate parent support and planning to help avoid scheduling conflicts.
Every practice & performance is a grade for the course and requirement to earn the P.E. waiver. Those will be reflected in progressbook, similar to daily class work (practice), quizzes (football games) & tests (competitions).
There are only a few excusable absences, such as medical, funerals or other emergencies. Riverbend concerts, work, homework, etc. are not an excusable reason to be absent from this course meetings. We ask that all students & parents plan ahead based on the listed schedule on the calendar below.
When a student is absent from any activity, a 0 will be given as the grade. If a student wishes to request a makeup assignment for the missed activity, they should talk with Mr. Wesche or Mr. Gaal regarding the reason for meeting the excused status and a makeup assignment being given. This policy is similar to what happens if a student is absent from school and needing to makeup a missing math assignment.
We still have some yard signs and booster membership items that have not been picked up. We will have a table at the end of Wednesday night’s practice from 8:15-8:45 pm to pick up at the flagpole.
