New Orleans Trip Online Information Meeting - Thursday Night
This is an option opportunity for our students. The trip would take place around Presidents Day Weekend in February. Music Travel Consultants is our travel company and will be holding an online zoom meeting this Thursday night at 6:30. If you are unable to join the online meeting, a video of it will be saved and shared in the following days.
Our marching band uniforms are very unique and do not have sleeves. We have custom sleeves being created to match the theme of our show. Each student will need to wear a long sleeve compression shirt under their uniform. These shirts are also lightweight and allow for more air movement, which is very helpful under a thicker uniform. If a student does not own one of these already, they can be purchased at most local sporting and clothing stores or online. Amazon has many options.
September 10th Dress Rehearsal
This is an extremely important event that all students should have on their calendar. It will be the first time we are putting on the uniforms as a full group and also learning many other competition event logistics. When a group our size hits the road, it takes an incredible amount of coordination. Loading the semi trailer alone, includes a ton of coordination for 200 students to be able to quickly and efficiently load their uniforms and equipment.
Students will be at school from 3:30-8:30 on this night, in place of going to a football game. We will finish the night with a parent performance in full uniform! Look for additional details in future newsletters.
Marching Band Grading
Every marching band activity from this point forward receives a grade in progressbook. Practices are equivalent to homework assignments, football game quizzes and competitions tests.
All of our activities can be seen on the website calendar. Saturday event details arrive 2-3 weeks prior to the event from the competition host. We will link those detailed itineraries to the calendar event listing.
We ask that you limit conflicts as much as possible. While we have some students who have not missed a single minute yet, we have others who have been out several times already. We are learning new information every practice, so if a student misses they are going to be behind.
While we work to be as flexible as possible during the work week, the Friday & Saturday events should have full participation. If there is ever a conflict with one of those performance nights, parents should reach out to their school band director directly. The absence submission form is for practices only.
We greatly appreciate parental help on this topic! Teenagers aren’t all the best at being proactive with scheduling and keeping a calendar. We are all working together to teach them this valuable life lesson.
If you have not already, please join the parent Remind for up to date sharing of information. Sign up following the directions below!

From the Boosters
Booster Membership
Thanks to all 103 families who have already joined as Booster Members! We’d love to grow even more before our September 7th meeting at 7 p.m. at Turpin HS. Please join below, if you haven’t already done so this season! All are welcome to attend!
We need a good amount of parent help this Fall. We would love to have every parent signup for at least one activity to ensure the group is able to function effectively. See the Volunteer Page for the current opportunities, including new postings for uniform fittings and popcorn sales
This Saturday, the Boosters welcomed fifth grade musicians as they received their instruments at Nagel Middle School. Response from parents to the Amazon Smile, Kroger Rewards, and Membership was terrific! Students enjoyed pizza as their first sectionals ended before noon.
