Student Rehearsal Attendance & Grading
Marching band used to simply be a part of the band course grade and expectations. A handful of years ago, it was decided that band students would earn a P.E. waiver and receive extra credit for the marching band activities of the band program. The grading is mostly based on attendance, which is taken at every practice and performance beginning this week.
There will be 3 grades given in Progressbook for the quarter. Rehearsals, Football Games & Competitions. Any time a student is absent from practice for any reason, it will be marked as a missing assignment and a 0 shown.
If a student or parent communicates to a band director, percussion or guard director in advance of the absence and the reason falls under the small list of excused absences listed in the programhandbook, a makeup assignment will be granted for the grade. We are often given reasons of “prior commitments'', rock concerts, students being tired and many others that are not excused. With the success of the group being greatly affected by attendance and the students earning the academic credit and P.E. waiver, we greatly appreciate your help with these topics.
We run bus shuttles for those who need transportation to after school rehearsals. These are one way transportation buses. Students will need to be picked up at the rehearsal site once practice has ended.
High School to High School The students should gather with the band directors after school. The bus will depart around 2:50 to travel to the other high school.
Nagel to High School
The students gather with Mr. Sheridan in the rear, Northport lot immediately after school is dismissed. The bus will depart at 3:20 or just after.
Disney World Trip - February
There are small details being worked on behind the scenes for our exciting, option trip to Disney World in February. At this point, the most important thing is for all students to be enrolled who plan to attend. You can find the enrollment and general information on the website.
We will be in touch very soon with those who reached out to Joe about being a chaperone.
